Skin care routine for men and women

Is a man’s skin different from a woman’s? In some skin-related ways, we are alike. Men get wrinkles just like women do and women must deal with acne also. How and when these skin issues affect us can vary exceptionally between the two sexes. There are structural differences between men’s skin and women’s skin, some of the differences include skin thickness, collagen density, loss of collagen as we age, texture, and sebum.  Take care of your skin regardless of your age or gender. Slow down aging with a better skin care regimen.

  • Hormones: Men and women both have certain hormones which help promotes the collagen production and elastin.
  • Aging: Women lose their skin-protecting hormone much faster than men.
  • Lifestyle Choices: Healthy diet and lifestyle play a tremendous role in how our skin looks on the outside, so living active life goes a long way to beautiful skin at any age.

What else?….

Take care of your skin regardless your age or gender.”

Thickness

Androgen (testosterone) stimulation causes an increase in skin thickness, which accounts for why men have about 25% thicker skin than a woman. Men’s skin also thins gradually with age, whereas the thickness of a woman’s skin remains constant until about the age of 50, but 50+ a woman’s skin will thin significantly. This is one reason why men   or women take care of their skin may appear younger than their equally age-wise counterparts once they reach their 50s, 60s and beyond.

Collagen Density

Regardless of age, men have a higher collagen density than women. Because of this naturally occurring collagen density difference, it is more common for women to show premature age signs faster than men even though they are of the same age. Having said that,

Loss of Collagen

The physical signs of aging in adults, such as wrinkles and laxity to the tissue, are strictly related to the collagen content of the skin. Both men and women lose about one percent of their collagen per year after their 30th birthday. For women, however, this escalates significantly in the first five years after menopause then slows down to a loss of two percent per year.

Wrinkles

It is a simple fact of life that both men and women will develop wrinkles as they age. However, men and women get them in different areas and with varying degrees of gravity. Men normally get deeper forehead wrinkles and more prominent wrinkles under the eyes compared to women. in contrast to in women, wrinkles appear first near the mouth and lower cheeks. For decades, women have enjoyed a wide range of anti-aging products but in recent years have men been given more options to help them retain their youthful-looking skin. Designed specifically for a man’s skin, these products can help men reduce deep wrinkles and treat under-the-eye bags to restore their good looks.

Texture

Male skin texture is different than that of a woman. It is more robust because of a thicker stratum corneum (outermost epidermal layer of the skin); this is also the cause of the difference in facial wrinkling that develops over the years, where men are prone to developing deeper facial wrinkles also associated with subcutaneous fat loss.

Sebum

Sebum (oil) production in men is double that of women, and they have more and larger pores. This means that not only is male skin oilier and shinier than female skin, but that they are also more prone to acne and less prone to dry skin.
